Compatibility of loquat cultivars grafted onto seedlings of loquat species and cultivars.

摘要

This experiment was carried out at the greenhouse of orchard of Horticultural College of South China Agricultural University from 2003 to 2008. The cultivated loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) including 'Zaozhong No.6' and 'Jiefangzhong'; the wild loquat taxa including 'Salwin Loquat' (E. salwinensis Hand-Mazz), 'Kokshun Loquat' (E. deflexa var. koshunensis Nakai), 'Henry Loquat' (E. henryi Nakai), 'Wild common loquat tree' (E. japonica), 'Fragrant Loquat' (E. fragrans Champ), 'Guangxi Loquat' (E. kwangsiensis Chun), 'Oak leaf Loquat' (E. prinoides Rehd & Wils) and, 'Elliptic leaf Loquat' (E. elliptica Lindl.). Seeds of the loquats were sown, and grown to seedlings. 'Zaozhong No.6', 'Marc', 'Pelluches' and 'Ullera' were grafted onto nine different loquat rootstocks and survival rates and graft compatibility were observed. 'Zaozhong No.6'/'Zaozhong No.6', 'Zaozhong No.6'/'Jiefangzhong', 'Marc'/'Jiefangzhong' and 'Marc'/'Guangxi Loquat' had high grafted survival rate Survival rates were higher with native rootstocks were than wild loquat rootstocks. 'Henry Loquat' and 'Marc'/'Henry Loquat' displayed "short-term compatibility" and 'Ulleta'/'Guangxi Loquat' displayed "half-compatibility." Graft compatibility had no relation to leaf dry weight and potassium content. Differences in soluble sugar and nitrogen content between scion and stock were observed and there was a significant negative correlation between graft compatibility and this difference. Wild loquat rootstocks influenced scion growth, fruit bearing, and fruit quality. Graft combinations which used the 'Fragrant loquat' as the rootstock suggest higher cold resistance and improved scion growth. The wild 'Fragrant loquat' appeared to have value as rootstocks for domesticated loquat.
