This work aims to provide some points of discussion about the recent developments in technology of kiwifruit production in terms of quality assurance and product safety. The explicit market demand, expressed by consumers and interpreted by large retailers, led to the creation of a new unified worldwide standard, characterized by the research of three elements: product safety, worker security and environmental sustainability. After describing features of GlobalGapReg. standard, outlining working methods implemented to achieve its goals, we analyse the impact on orchard management. Two indexes are presented to evaluate compliance and compliance "effort". Finally, an evaluation is undertaken on how decision-making process is affected by such an innovative cultural approach.
