The six SSR markers, EMFv006, EMFv029, EMFvil08, EMFvil09, UDF003 and UDF007 generated a total of 38 alleles in 30 strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) cultivars with a PIC value variation from 0.7 to 0.87 and the number of alleles ranged from 4 for EMFv006 to 11 for EMFvil09. EMFv029 and UDF003 were the most informative and EMFv006 was least informative. In total, SSR fingerprinting using only six Fragaria SSRs successfully separated the 30 strawberry cultivars. One routine method for cultivar identification for the common garden strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) was established at the Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee (KOB) research station. Future extension of the genebank with additional strawberry cultivars will make it possible to identify the trueness-to-type of 'KOB6', 'KOB7' and 'KOB8'.
