Some Years of Trials on the Effectiveness of Hazelnut Foliar Fertilization

In the Monferrato district, unfortunately, suggestions and technical information on fertilization of hazelnut orchards are given to the growers by the vendors. Just to check if the use of some commercial foliar fertilizers and their mixture, could behelpful for the hazelnut orchard productivity and fruit quality, the use of 2 of them, has been tried. At this regard we thought to simulate the growers behaviour in fertilizer application and, obviously, considering also some rows without any fertilizers application. We used 3 blocks, each of them of 3 rows, for each thesis and test. The yield and fruit sampling for analysis were made on 9 plants in the central row. The experimental design considered a mixture of 2 (A+B) and 3 (E+B+Z) different commercial products, of which one with boron and the other with boron and zinc. Following the growers behaviour, foliar fertilizer application was done on the same rows for 1 or more years. The yielding and fruit sampling for analysis were made in the year after treatments. The results show that the production of plants treated with only boron, was lower than the production of the plants treated with boron + zinc. For both kind of treatments, the increase in the number of years of treatment generally increasedthe yielding. In fact the production of the plants treated 2 or 3 years (only boron) or 2 and 4 years (boron + zinc) was significantly higher than the one of the plants treated only 1 year. No kind of treatments and their number was able to modify significantly the qualitative traits of fruit.
