A construct containing two chimeric genes, Cauliflower mosaic virus 35s -[bar) and nopaline synthase -neomycin phosphotransferase (nptlf), was introduced into carrot cultivar ‘Nantskaya 4’ using Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediateA transformation procedure. A number of transgenic carrot plants showing the stable integration of the bar gene were produced from embryogenlc callus culture. Most of the obtained transgenic plants showed complete herbicide resistance at 0.05-0.50% Basta. Thus, introductionof the bar gene into a carrot cultivar can allow efficient production of herbicide-resistant transgenic carrot with commercial potential.
