摘要

Salmonellosis outbreaks associated with consumption of fresh tomatoes have been alarming in the recent years. Trace-back analysis suggests contamination occurs preharvest. Members of the bacterial spot of tomato disease complex have been shown to increase the survival of S. enterica in the tomato phyllosphere. We assessed the effect of plant-pathogen interactions on the survival of S. enterica. We performed population dynamics studies of S. enterica in presence of compatible and incompatible interactions elicited by a plant pathogen on five-week-old tomato plants. The nature of the plant-pathogen interaction influenced the fate of S. enterica. S. enterica persisted longer on leaves with a compatible interaction compared to leaves of an incompatibleinteraction or when S. enterica was applied alone.
