The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has deregulated lines of genetically modified potatoes and alfalfa with improved output traits. The decisions concern JR Simplot’s Innate potatoes with low acrylamide potential and reduced black spot bruise, and Monsanto/Forage Genetics’ KK179 alfalfa with reduced levels of guaiacyl lignin. The APHIS has made findings of no significant impact and issued final environmental assessments and plant pest risk assessments.
