摘要

A former director of environmentalist group Greenpeace finds it “morally unacceptable” for the group to take a stand against genetically modified crops. Stephen Tindale, former executive director of Greenpeace in the UK made the declaration during an episode of the current affairs television programme, Panorama, on the BBC. Mr Tindale said that he had decided to “speak out on GM” as he thought it necessary for people such as him who have opposed the technology to say that things had changed. He recommended evaluating the technology on a case-by-case basis examining what each was being done for. “I worry for Greenpeace and the other green groups because they could, by taking such a hard line on GM, be seen to be putting ideology before the need for humanitarian action,” he said. Mr Tindale is the second prominent green campaigner in recent years to publicly change his mind about GMOs after anti-GMO author and activist Mark Lynas gave up his “wrong” stance at a speech delivered in Oxford, UK.
