The US Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has appealed a federal court ruling that allows Vermont to move forward with implementation of a state law that requires labels on some foods made with genetically modified ingredients. The appeal challenges last week’s decision by US District Court Judge Christina Reiss that denied the GMA’s request to block Vermont from applying the labelling requirements while its lawsuit is pending. Judge Reiss also partially granted and denied Vermont’s motion to dismiss the case, effectively trimming the complaint yet still offering hope to both sides that they might prevail.
