A Court-approved settlement exempts alfalfa farmers in the US state of Oregon’s Jackson County from a local ban on genetically modified crops for up to eight years. The deal allows the farmers who challenged the local ordinance to see out their existing crops before requiring them to abandon GM lines. It also extends the same terms to any farmers within the county who may be growing GM alfalfa so long as their crops were planted prior to June 6, 2014.
