The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency proposes to allow the continued registration of the fumigant, chloropicrin, following a special review of the active ingredient. The review was prompted by the EU’s decision to ban the fumigant in 2011 on human health and environmental grounds. Concerns were raised over risks to handlers, birds, mammals and aquatic organisms, leaching into ground water and long-range atmospheric transport.
