The recent ascent of Powder River basin (PRB) coal markets slowed this week, as producers seeking to lock in long-term contracts find themselves diverging from utilities looking for spot deals. Nearby PRB prices increased by 100 after climbing considerably higher last week than in the last several months, with the prompt quarter for 8,800 Btu/lb coal at $11.10/short ton, fourth quarter at $11.60/st and first quarter of 2014 at $11.75/st.
