摘要

In a report compiled following consultations with the Egyptian authorities – the first it has produced since 2010 – the International Monetary Fund (IMF) commended the authorities’ efforts to improve national infrastructure and reform the energy sector, highlighting in particular the reform of the oil subsidy regime initiated in 2014, which is expected to be speeded up following the fall in oil prices. The rate of growth of nominal GDP, which declined by 0.2% in 2011, has picked up gradually and reached 2.2% in 2013-14, when GDP increased to £Eg. 1,997.6 billion ($286.4 billion), with subsidies on energy products accounting for over 6%. According to the IMF, the cost of these subsidies should fall to 3.1% of GDP (£Eg. 2,295.4 billion) in 2014-15 and 1.2% of GDP (£Eg. 2,631.3 billion) in 2015-16.
