Romania has granted a slew of exploration licenses this month, including five in the Black Sea, to companies including Russia’s Lukoil with US Vanco, Hungarian Mol and US Chevron, the national agency for mineral resources said (IOD Jul.7,p7). The awards were the first since the International Court of Justice in February last year drew a new maritime border between Romania and Ukraine to settle a Black Sea dispute affecting rights to drill for oil and gas.
