The UK government said Tuesday it would set aside £250 million ($390 million) over the life of the current parliament — scheduled to run to May 2015 — to help UK energy-intensive industries cope with the cost of funding environmental measures. Delivering his autumn budget statement to parliament, Finance Minister George Osborne said he is "worried about the combined im- pact of green policies adopted by Britain and Europe on some of our energy-heavy indus- tries. We will help them with the costs of the EU Trading Scheme and the carbon price floor, increase their climate change levy relief and reduce the impact of the electricity mar- ket reforms on these businesses, too."
