Japanese engineering giant JGC Corp. sai Thursday it has agreed to pay an 18.2 billio yen ($219 million) criminal penalty to the US Department of Justice to avoid prosecution over charges it bribed Nigerian officials to win contracts to build Nigeria's Bonny Island LNG terminal. JGC was a member of the TSKJ consortium awarded four engineering, procurement and construction contracts worth mor than $6 billion for the facilities between 1995 and 2004. Other partners in the fourmember consortium were Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), Technip, and Eni subsidiary Snamprogetti Netherlands.
