The UN is threatening sanctions on Sudan and South Sudan if there is not fast progress to end hostilities and resolve outstanding issues, backing an African Union (AU) ultimatum to the two states after recent clashes around the Heglig oil field. The concerted diplomatic push to avert all out war follows the worst fighting since South Sudan separated last July.
