The state of Western Australia has dropped a prosecution case against US-based Apache and its colicensees, Kufpec and Tap, which followed a blast at the Apache-operated Varanus gas plant in June 2008. The incident crippled about one-third of the state's gas supply for at least six months and forced many miners and industrial users to scramble for alternative supplies (IOD Dec.15'08). The state decided to abandon the case after new evidence made it unlikely that it would succeed.
