Chinese state Sinopec said Tuesday it had approved the development plan for its first coalbed methane (CBM) field, situated in northwestern China, where it aims to establish 500 MMcm of production capacity by the end of 2014. Sinopec has been carrying out seismic work on the Yanchuannan field, which straddles the boundary between the Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, since 2008 (IOD Aug.28'12). The first wildcat well, Yan 1, was the most successful, having tested at a gas flow rate of 2,632 cubic meters per day in April 2010.
