The US Treasury Department on Thursday slapped sanctions on a Greek businessman who helped Iran buy eight very large crude carriers (VLCCs) that were used to take at least 16 million barrels of Iranian crude oil to Asia, the bulk of it to China. The Treasury identified Dimitris Cambis as the man behind front companies that bought VLCCs with US dollars and operated these vessels on behalf of National Iranian Tanker Co. (NITC).
