Libya has plans to issue tenders for two new solar plants aiming to generate a fifth of its power from renewable energy by 2020, Libyan Electricity Minister Ali Mohammed Muhairiq told a conference on sustainable energy in Brussels. Currently Libya relies heavily on its own oil and gas resources for power generation. Natural gas accounts for the bulk at 41%, while light fuel oil (33%) and heavy fuel oil (26%) make up the rest, according to data from the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya.
