摘要

Anticorruption campaign group Global Witness has praised Myanmar as a beacon of transparency after 25 of the 46 companies awarded oil and gas blocks in the Southeast Asian country over the past year willingly disclosed their beneficial owners. Myanmar watchers welcomed the news but said more safeguards were needed for the reforming state to fully overcome a legacy of graft. The disclosures make Myanmar the "current global leader on company ownership publication, setting an important precedent on which the government, legislators and the Myanmar EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative) can build," the nongovernmental organization (NGO) said in a report. Myanmar joined the EITI, which is currently implemented in 48 states around the world, as a candidate country over the summer (IOD Jul.7'14).
