Russia and China have underpinned the agreement Russian independent gas producer Novatek signed with China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) for the Yamal LNG project, after inking their own separate pact to support the deal. The cooperation agreement, signed in January by Moscow and Beijing, came into force on Feb. 27 and extends through December 2045, emphasizing the two countries' long-term objectives. Its main purpose, according to Novatek, is "to establish favorable conditions for investment cooperation in the Yamal LNG project."
