Russia's energy minister says that Europe has no other viable option to Russian natural gas and that any attempt to diversify would likely lead to a 50% rise in prices. Speaking to Russian television on Thursday, Alexander Novak said that a switch from pipebased deliveries from Russia to an LNGbased market would mean that Europe would give up the current $380/Mcm ($10.76/MMBtu) for a minimum $550/Mcm ($15.57/MMBtu). "So the question arises: Is the economy of European countries prepared to take and consume gas at this price?"
