Norway's Statoil has awarded Swiss - based power and automation technology giant ABB a $130 million contract to supply systems and equipment needed to power the first phase of its flagship offshore Johan Sverdrup field development in the North Sea. Oil production at Johan Sverdrup, located west of Stavanger on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), is expected to start in late 2019 and will eventually reach 550,000 - 650,000 boe/d -- or 40% of total oil production on the NCS.
