Construction has started on the longdiscussed 1,800 kilometer Turkmenistan- Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (Tapi) gas pipeline, which could pump up to 33 billion cubic meters per year of Turkmen gas by the end of the decade (IOD Oct.26'15). The $10 billion project, which has been under discussion for two decades, still faces numerous hurdles, including a shortage of funding and continued volatility in Afghanistan and Pakistan that could make the pipeline an easy terrorist target.
