Exports of Iraqi crude oil from the southern port of Basrah have been disrupted by a combination of bad weather and maintenance work, causing a queue of tankers outside the terminal that could take several weeks to clear, according to Gulf shipping sources (IOD Apr.13'16). As of Friday around 10 ships were reported ready to load both Basrah Light and Basrah Heavy, with at least 17 more lined up awaiting instructions. The terminal has a limited capacity, with three single point moorings and four loading berths in operation, with the latter normally reserved for shipments of Basrah Light. Iraq's premium export grade, Basrah Light accounts for roughly two-thirds of southern exports, which have been averaging around 3.2 million barrels per day so far this year. In March, the total was around 3.26 million b/d, compared to 3.22 million b/d in February. Basrah Heavy, which made its debut last spring, accounts for the remaining onethird.
