Norway's Statoil has poured cold water on Tanzania's hopes of becoming an LNG exporter any time soon, indicating it could be another 10 years before the East African country is sending out cargoes. An official from Statoil, which has discovered an estimated 22 trillion cubic feet (623 billion cubic meters) of gas offshore Tanzania, said this week a final investment decision (FID) on an LNG project was five years away and construction would take another five years after sanctioning, pushing the prospect of first gas sales out to 2026 at the earliest.
