Hoping to plug a looming gas shortfall, state Ghana National Petroleum Corp. (GNPC) has signed an initial heads of terms agreement with Quantum Power to build and operate LNG import facilities at Tema on the country's southeastern coast. The terminal will be served by a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) moored 12 kilometers off the coast in the Gulf of Guinea. GNPC said the Tema project would "play an increasing role in meeting Ghana's growing energy demand; providing the Ghanaian power generation industry with a highly reliable and clean fuel supply to meet projected power and industrial needs over the next 20 years."
