Woodside Petroleum is in early talks to acquire a stake the Leviathan gas discovery offshore Israel in the Mediterranean Sea, although Russian big hitter Gazprom is a rival. "There has been media speculation about Woodside's bid for an interest in the 349/Rachel and 350/Amit petroleum licences offshore Israel, covering the Leviathan gas field. Woodside advises that it is in an early phase of a competi- tive bidding process with the licence holders. Any speculation about price and commercial terms is premature," said Woodside today.
