Anadarko Petroleum’s successful Heidelberg-2 appraisal well in Green Canyon Block 903 in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico (GoM) has spurred the player to plan development studies. The well encountered around 250ft (76m) of oil pay in high quality Miocene sands. The appraisal well was drilled to a total depth of 31,030ft (9,457m) at a water depth of around 5,000ft (1,524m). The appraisal well lies 2.4km south of and 550ft (168m) structurally updip from the Heidelberg discovery well.
