摘要

Concrete tensile microcracking due to amechanical loading enhances the diffusion of aggressive agentsfrom concrete cover to the reinforcements, which leads to thebeginning of the propagation period of steel corrosion. Thepurpose of this work is to quantify the effects of concretemicrocracking on CO2 penetration. Concrete carbonation wasstudied on two 13-year-old reinforced concrete beams subjectedto atmospheric carbonation. Indeed, these beams were exposed tothe climate of the south-west of France but in a covered place andwere always stored in a loaded state. Because the microcrackingnetwork is quite impossible to characterise, the tensile stress inthe reinforcements was chosen as the main parameter of themicrocracking state. This investigation results on a proposedmodel whose accuracy predicts the increase of the carbonationdepth of the concrete in relation to the tensile stress in rebar.
