After a desperate search a Sumitomo Metal Industries subsidiary has finally managed to find a Chinese partner; Jiangyin Xingcheng Steel Works, with which it can enter a technical tie-up and so meet the needs of Japanese automakers establishing manufacturing plants in China. The search was launched by SMI's wholly-owned Sumitomo Metals (Kokura) and concluded on October 25 when it signed a pact with the special steelmaker located in Jiangyin city in Jiangsu eastern China, to provide technical know-ho engineers and begin a study to expand Jiang downstream fabricating operations.
