摘要

Dr. Kleinpell and colleagues (1) did outstanding work in listing and critically appraising the Web-based resources that are currently available for critical care education. They identified a number of noteworthy educational Web sites and e-learning materials, which were meticulously reviewed to fulfill a set of stern requirements of quality and credibility.Given our specific involvement in infection prevention education, our attention was immediately drawn toward the related Web sites listed. Although of high quality, we found these sites mainly to effectuate a passive transfer of knowledge by providing students with a compilation of lectures, slideshows, podcasts, or guidelines that can be viewed, listened to, and/or downloaded. In contemporary teaching philosophy, however, the accent is on the incorporation of critical thinking and of active, independent, and evidence-based learning on the part of students. Overall, these criteria are not met by the Web sites listed, which predominantly remain merely informative. Thus, they fail to fully reflect the adult learning theory that stresses the importance of involving the student in his learning process
