Frankfurt-VCI, the German chemical industry association, last week reported increases in domestic chemical production, sales and employment for the first half of 2011 and said it is "optimistic" about the second half of the year. Predicting that the industry "will achieve new record figures" for the year based on first half results, VCI President Klaus Engel stated: "At the present stage, it is perfectly justified to speak of an upswing in our industry."
