Riyadh— Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) and China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) have signed a protocol of cooperation to explore new business opportunities. The protocol also confirms the two companies' commitment to the principles reached in earlier agreements, including one on polycarbonate collaboration, which has been approved by China's National Development and Reform Commission (PCN, 23 May 2011, p 3). It sets the foundation for a joint investment to build a 260,000-t/y polycarbonate production facility in Tianjin, China, where the existing Sinopec Sabic Tianjin Petrochemical Co. (SSTPC) joint venture is located.
