Rio de Janeiro— Petrobras has entered into an agreement with Vale SA to purchase 100% of the shares of nitrogen fertilizer producer Araucaria Nitrogenados SA for $234-million. Araucaria Nitrogenados has a complex in Araucaria, Parana, Brazil, where capacity includes 700,000 t/y of urea and 475,000 t/y of ammonia. Petrobras noted that the acquisition complements its additional fertilizer assets, allowing for close proximity to markets in Sao Paulo and Parana, greater storage capacity and means of transportation.
