Beaumont-Pandora Methanol LLC, formed as a joint venture of OCI Nitrogen and Janus Methanol, has completed the rehabilitation of its integrated ammonia and methanol plant in Beaumont, Texas, and the facility is now fully operational (PCN, 30 Apr 2012, p 2). In 2011, Pandora acquired the 250,000-t/y ammonia and 750,000-t/y methanol facility from Eastman Chemical. Eastman had acquired the plant in an idled state in 2007 from Terra Industries with plans to implement an industrial gasification project at the site using petroleum coke as the primary feedstock. Eastman, however, abandoned that plan in 2009 citing "high capital costs."
