Tortona-Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) has started construction in Crescentino, Italy, on "the world's first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant," said Novozymes, who is partnering with M&G on the project. The 13-million-gal/yr facility, designed to operate on numerous cellulosic feedstocks, will be 10 times larger than the largest demonstration facilities operating today. Production is scheduled to begin in 2012.
