Midland-Dow Chemical has received board approval to finalize detailed engineering and purchase long lead-time equipment for a new world-scale propylene production plant at Dow Texas Operations in Freeport (PCN, 9 Jan 2012, p 1).The propylene facility is part of "comprehensive plans" announced by Dow last spring to increase its U.S. ethylene and propylene capacity and integrate its U.S. operations into feedstock opportunities from increasing supplies of shale gas in the Marcellus and Eagle Ford shale regions (PCN, 2 May 2011, p 1).
