Lianyungang-China's Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Co. has licensed UOP's advanced methanol-to-olefin (MTO) process to convert methanol from gasified coal for a plant to be built in Lianyungang, China. The project, which UOP said is "expected to be the largest single-train MTO unit in the world," will have a design capacity of 833,000 t/y of ethylene and propylene. Scheduled to begin production in 2015, the unit will also provide feedstock to downstream units producing 4-million t/y of petrochemical products.
