Atvrau—Sinopec Engineering and Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI) have terminated an engineering, procurement and construction contract for a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit and polypropylene (PP) plant to be built in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, according to several published reports. Last year, KPI awarded Sinopec a $1.85-billion contract for the 500,000-t/y PDH and 500,000-t/y PP project, as well as utilities required by the plants and design, procurement, construction, start-up and assessment of off-site infrastructure (PCN, 24 June 2013, p 1).
