Frankfurt— AkzoNobel said it has opened its new, highly efficient chlorine membrane electrolysis plant in Frankfurt, Germany (PCN, 7 May 2012, p 4). The ?140-million conversion and expansion project increased the plant's capacity by 50% to 250,000 t/y of chlorine and 275,000 t/y of caustic soda solution, while reducing the facility's overall ecological footprint by some 20%, the company said.
