Tokyo—Mitsui & Co. said it is investing $60-million in LanzaTech "to create a new business where Mitsui actively contributes to developing next generation biofuels and biochemicals made from waste gases." LanzaTech has developed microorganism gas fermentation technology, which converts carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) containing gases into fuels and chemicals such as ethanol and butadiene. The company is also undertaking gas fermentation technology development with CO2 containing gases. LanzaTech's primary business is the licensing of this technology.
