Houston— Shintech Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical, has applied to the State of Louisiana Dept. of Environment Quality for a permit to build an ethylene plant to provide feedstock for its increasing production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The application is for a 500,000-t/y ethylene plant. Industrial use land already owned by Shintech is a leading candidate for the site of the project. Concurrently with carrying out the required processes to secure a building permit, Shintech will continue its feasibility study, following which a final decision will be made.
