Chennai- Southern Petrochemical Industries Co. (SPIC) will resume production of urea using naphtha feedstock, after being informed by India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers that it would be allowed to use naphtha feedstock for a limited time, the Business Standard reported. SPIC halted production at its 620,000-t/y Tuticorin urea unit in October 2014, when the government decided to discontinue subsidies for naphtha based urea plants. SPIC has permission to use naphtha feedstock for a period of 100 days starting 7 Jan. 2015.
