Order in Fe-Si alloys: A neutron diffraction study

Four different Fe-Si alloys (7-20at.%Si) have been analyzed by in situ neutron diffraction measurements. Samples were heated up from 200 to 1050 degrees C while neutron spectra were continuously collected. Rietveld refinement (FullProf) was used to fit the experimental patterns. The addition of Si provokes the development of the D0(3) phase, clearly present above 9 at.% Si. On the other hand, no B2 phase was detected for any Si-content. The temperature evolution of the lattice parameters is presented. In addition, different ordering/ disordering phenomena have been identified during the heating cycle. They are discussed with the help of the Rietveld analysis. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
