Ettouhami et al. have proposed, based on self-consistent Hartree-Fock theory, that the ground state in the N = 2 Landau-level near half-filling is a highly anisotropic Wigner crystal. This is in apparent disagreement with other mean field approaches and a density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculation that suggest a stripe state that is translationally invariant in 1 direction. The results of direct diagonalization and DMRG are presented to reexamine this issue. The most straightforward interpretation of the results is that the ground state is striped.
