Houston—A federal judge March 12 approved a criminal plea bargain BP had entered into with prosecutors to settle a case over the deadly 2005 accident at its Texas City, Texas, refinery.The plea agreement, announced in late 2007, addresses two criminal violations of federal law regarding certain industrial plant safety measures by requiring BP pay a $50 million fine and be under probationary supervision of safety and environmental regulators. BP is required to make the payment in full by March 15.
