To the outsider, semiconductor cleanrooms are surreal; with their elaborate gowning, super-clean demands, and high-tech mission, they seem like futuristic movie sets. But industry insiders know better; cleanrooms are very real places with challenges to be met and overcome if they are to accomplish their missions. In addition to the challenges with initially constructing and certifying a cleanroom, part of owning and operating a real cleanroom is maintaining the integrity of the cleanroom after it is built and certified. The cleanroom must produce measurable air flow patterns, along with velocity and particle counts, all verified by an independent certification firm in order to be certified and conduct day-to-day business.
